Haryana govt seeks 150 paramilitary companies in view of Aug 25 court verdict in Sirsa dera head case

CHANDIGARH: Haryana has sought 150 para-military companies from the Centre in view of the pronouncement of Panchkula special CBI court verdict fixed for August 25 in the 14-year old case of rape allegations against Sirsa based Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim by his followers.


State DGP BS Sandhu said that after analyzing the security arrangement across the state, high alert has been sounded and directions have been issued to all district police heads for ensuring preparedness in case of contingency. He said that the leave of all the police officers and officials have been cancelled.


Apart from Panchkula and Sirsa districts, the security has been beefed up in all the Punjabi speaking areas in the state.


As the post of Sirsa SP was lying vacant, Sonepat SP Ashwin Shenvi has been transferred to Sirsa with immediate effect. In transfer orders issued on Thrusday evening, SP vigilance OP Narwal was posted as SP RTC Bhondsi. SP (Crime) Arun Singh has been transferred as SP Jind, DSP Loharu Kuldep as DSP Dabwali and DSP (CID) Gurmail Sinch as DSP Kurukshetra.


After concluding the arguments in the case, the Panchkula special CBI court reserved its judgment in the case for Thursday. The CBI had on December 12, 2002, registered an FIR against Dera head at Chandigarh for allegations of rape, criminal intimidation and outraging modesty of his female followers at his Sirsa Dera premises.
