Man dead following dispute in East Village, wife in custody

A man was dead and his wife was in custody on Saturday morning after she called to report her husband was on the floor bleeding from a head wound, San Diego police reported.

The 911 call came shortly before 9:30 a.m. from a single-room-occupancy apartment building in the East Village.

The wife stated she and her husband had been fighting the previous night about 11 p.m., and that he “was on the floor laying down, not responsive,” said Officer Tony Martinez. The incident took place inside their room at the 300-unit Peach Tree Inn on F Street near Ninth Avenue.

Homicide investigators were on the scene. The woman, who is in her 50s, was being detained pending further investigation. The age and identity of her spouse were not immediately available.
